The wine is reminiscent of a trip on the African spice route. It nurtures the dream of travelling across this dark continent from the Southern tip of Cape Point to the Northern sands of the Pharaohs. The label itself is a piece of art that draws the reader into the experience. The wines are presented in an attractive matching wooden box with a poster-size map of Africa guiding one through the continent making it an ideal gift!
“Deep red colour, full-ripe, spicy, dark-fruit, vanilla and oak flavour, opening with white pepper and richness – a real Syrah feel; the taste is fruity, clean, well balanced with a long finish; the wine shows nice oak and reflects an elegant style with a capacity to mature well for the next 3 to 5 years”, says Nico van der Merwe South African Winemaker of the year 1991.
Wine Spectator Magazine Sept 2009 88/100 points: “A thick velvety layer of plum sauce is pushed by braised fig, espresso and charred apple wood notes in this ripe, open-knit red. The finish is long and fleshy”.
Wine Enthusiast September 2009 86/100 points: “This introverted but elegant Syrah starts with full, spicy blackberry and violet aromas. Flavours of spice, oak and black fruit are restrained and clean in a more traditional Syrah style. The finish is spicy and dry but lingers. Ageable and an excellent food pairing wine; think spicy grilled meats, cheeses”.
